CONSTRUCTING CURB APPEAL

This project exemplifies the transformative power of landscaping to convert a plain house, lacking context, into an elegant home framed within a showcase setting. By addressing building materials and proportion, we restyled a non-descript entrance into an arresting arrival way. To begin, we resurfaced the concrete walk with large bluestone and expanded the ill-proportioned landing into a full terrace. Architect Marta Hansen recommended adding a lintel over the door for balance, and the use of black paint to help coordinate the overall statement of sophistication. New—sizeable—crapemyrtle trees lend scale and convey an inviting sense of dimension. Two new stone retaining walls and planting beds update the traditional front lawn to complete the overall effect of transformation.
